About
Dr. Chidambaram (Chidu) Narayanan
Expert Consultant ยท multiphase flow simulation
Dr. Narayanan co-founded ASCOMP AG and, as CTO, headed its technology development and industrial consulting. As chief technologist and product manager of TransAT, a code for the simulation of complex multiphase flows, Dr. Narayanan led its development and, in 2020, its sale and technology transfer. Consulting projects for large companies in the oil and gas, nuclear, energy and process industries, with clients in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East, have covered multiphase, compressible and turbulent flows, system and process modelling, and simulation-based design.
Dr. Narayanan was principal investigator for all the research presented on this site:
- ASHRAE research project RP-1569 (2014โ2018). CFD study of condensation-induced hydraulic shock in two-phase ammonia, validated against the twelve RP-970 experiments.
- Wiencke pipework fracture (IIAR, 2021). CFD analysis of a pipework fracture caused by hydraulic shock in an industrial ammonia refrigeration system.
- IIAR design-basis project (2022). Shock correlation for fast-acting hot-gas valves on a stratified liquid layer, and opening times for motorized valves.
- IIAR design-basis project (2024). Shock from a pre-formed liquid slug, and a basis for sizing quick-opening hot-gas valves.
The work rests on a compressible multiphase formulation and phase-change models published in the International Journal of Multiphase Flow (2017, 2021). Related papers apply the same models to a pulp-digester blow line (Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology, 2023) and to wall condensation (2025). The full list is on the Research page.
